Update from March 13, 2025 on Amany Ashraf Zarif Samuel (18)
A new and serious development has occurred in the case of Amany Ashraf Zarif Samuel, who was featured in Coptic Solidarity’s recently published report, Hidden Crimes, Public Deception, pages 37-40.

Upon going to inquire about the missing-in-persons report she had filed on June 3, 2024 (administrative report numbered 4418 of 2024), Amany’s mother discovered that the Egyptian Ministry of Interior, Assiut Security Directorate had changed it from a missing-in-person to an inheritance dispute report between Amany’s parents, and then archived it with the claim that the dispute had been resolved.
The report was prepared at the Assiut Police Station – Assiut Governorate, by Major Gamal Mohamed Ismail Shaker, Assistant Investigations Officer at the Assiut Police Station – regarding the absence of the Coptic girl, Amany Ashraf Zarif Samuel (who had just turned 18 years old), and was signed by Amani’s father, Ashraf Zarif Samuel, and mother, Samiha Lotfi Hasab Allah.
Major Gamal assured the family that he would do his best to investigate Amany’s disappearance but instead, he altered and archived the report (view mother’s testimony).
When the family went to check on Amany’s identification papers, on March 13, 2025, in the Civil Affairs office, they found that all her ID’s were altered including her birth certificate ( this is typically based on a certificate of conversion to Islam from the Institute of Islamic Research at Al-Azhar, despite everyone knowing that the girl was missing and was barely 18 years of age).
Amany’s IDs were altered with a new name (Malak Ashraf Mohamed Ali) and religion (Muslim). The family also discovered that Amany was being held in an apartment on Hilal St., near Assiut train station. She was moved after knowledge of her whereabouts became known to the family.
