At least seven people have been killed and 14 wounded in attack on a bus heading towards a Coptic Christian monastery in northern Egypt,
No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack 160 miles south of Cairo on Friday.
The victims were travelling to St Samuel the Confessor monastery in Minya when gunmen opened fire.
Security forces surrounded the area and launched a search for the perpetrators.
The death toll of seven was announced by the Archbishop of Minya. Church spokesman Bouls Halim said the figure was likely to rise.
It was the second attack to target pilgrims heading to the Saint Samuel the Confessor monastery in Minya province in as many years. An attack in May last year left 29 people dead, with Isis later claiming responsibility.
Egypt‘s Coptic Christian minority, which makes up an estimated 10 percent of the population, have been a frequent target of attacks and persecution since the uprising that toppled former president Hosni Mubarak in 2011.
