Dr. Nazir Mohamed Ayyad, Egypt’s Grand Mufti and Secretary-General of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide, received Ambassador Wael El-Naggar, Assistant Foreign Minister for Cultural Relations, on Wednesday, June 10, in a meeting reflecting the close cooperation and full coordination between state institutions.

During the meeting, the Grand Mufti emphasized the pride of the Egyptian Dar al-Ifta and the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide in their fruitful cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, particularly in areas related to promoting Egypt’s role in disseminating the values of moderation and balance, confronting extremist ideologies, and strengthening bridges of cultural and civilizational communication with countries around the world.

The Mufti expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in supporting Egypt’s international presence, stressing that cooperation between Dar al-Ifta and the Ministry represents an important pillar in presenting the true image of Islam, highlighting national efforts to combat extremism and Islamophobia, and strengthening engagement with relevant international institutions in a manner that serves Egypt’s civilizational mission and its leading role in promoting the values of peace and coexistence.

For his part, Ambassador Wael El-Naggar praised the efforts undertaken by the Egyptian Dar al-Ifta and the important role played by the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide through its specialized centers and units, foremost among them the Salam Center for the Study of Extremism and Islamophobia. He commended the center’s scholarly and research contributions in monitoring and analyzing the phenomena of extremism and Islamophobia and in providing sound intellectual approaches that help correct misconceptions and promote a culture of peace.

The Assistant Foreign Minister also highlighted the importance of the documents and declarations issued by the conferences of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide, praising their role in supporting the values of coexistence, strengthening social peace, and confronting hate speech and extremism.

He further affirmed the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ commitment to continuing its cooperation with Dar al-Ifta and the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide in promoting these documents and declarations and disseminating them internationally among relevant bodies, in a manner that reflects Egypt’s leading position in fostering civilizational dialogue and spreading the values of moderation and peace.
