The Australian Coptic Community and supporters will protest against the ongoing persecution of Egypt’s Copts following the heinous murder of two Coptic Christians by a policeman in Al Minya on 13 December 2018.

Video footage clearly shows a policeman opening fire on the unarmed victims. Imad Sadiq and his son David, were killed in cold blood in an incident that has outraged the Coptic Community in Egypt around the world following a spate of fatal terror attacks, mob violence and church closures.

President Al-Sisi has been President for over four years with virtually no opposition. During that time, attacks against Coptic Christians have escalated to levels not seen in modern history.

Egypt’s Christians are already targeted by ISIS terrorists and other radical groups. The Egyptian government responds to violent mob attacks on Copts by organising so called ‘reconciliation sessions’ in towns after Coptic Christians are attacked. We believe these customary ‘reconciliation sessions’ do not adequately address incidents where violent attacks have occurred and should not take the place of an appropriate judicial response.

Those who perpetrate violent attacks against other citizens should be held accountable. Christians are denied access to real justice due to Egyptian Government policy.

“How can the government claim they are protecting Coptic Christians when their own police massacre our community members? We demand that the Egyptian Government take serious steps to ensure Coptic Christians treated equally before the law,” Mr. Maximus said.

“We will not remain silent while the Egyptian Government continues to wash their hands of these heinous events and total disregard for human rights,” Mr Maximus said.

We invite you to join us for protests at the following locations on 30 December.

Sydney – 12.30pm Egyptian Consulate 33 York Street, Sydney

Melbourne – 12.30pm Egyptian Consulate 50 Market Street, Melbourne.

Brisbane – 12.30pm Parliament House

Darwin – 12.30pm Parliament House
