Following the U.S. presidential elections, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi congratulated President-elect Donald Trump via telephone and extended an invitation for him to visit Cairo.
According to the presidency, Sisi was the first international leader to convey his well-wishes. A statement was also issued that expressed hope for future relations between the two nations, stating, “Egypt is looking forward to seeing a new spirit brought to the presidential term of President Trump in terms of Egyptian-American relations, including more cooperation and coordination for the mutual benefit of the American and Egyptian people.”
This echoed statements made by Tunisia’s President Beji Caid Essebsi, who stated [Fr], “I’m certain that [Donald Trump] will spare no effort in bringing peace and stability to the Middle East.”
