In the coming days, Egypt will inaugurate the Strategic State Command Headquarters (Ministry of Defense) in the New Administrative Capital, in the presence of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, together with a number of heads of state, prime ministers, and senior officials.
The Strategic State Command Headquarters, known as “The Octagon,” is regarded as one of the largest sovereign projects undertaken during the era of the “New Republic.” It represents a major step forward in the development of the Egyptian Armed Forces’ command-and-control system, in accordance with the latest international standards for the management of military operations, crises, emergencies, and strategic communications.
The Octagon is the largest military headquarters and defense command complex in the Middle East, and one of the largest military and administrative complexes in the world. It is part of a vast development covering approximately 22,000 feddans (about 9,240 hectares or 22,800 acres), with buildings occupying more than 4.6 million square meters (approximately 49.5 million square feet), making the overall complex larger than the U.S. Pentagon in terms of total site area.
The project derives its name, “The Octagon,” from its distinctive architectural design, which consists of eight octagonal main buildings symbolizing the principal branches of the Egyptian Armed Forces. These buildings are interconnected with central facilities through internal corridors designed to maximize integration and facilitate rapid decision-making. The architectural concept draws inspiration from ancient Egyptian civilization while incorporating the latest construction and operational technologies.
The headquarters serves not only as the seat of the Ministry of Defense but also houses the Strategic State Command Center, which includes an advanced system for managing strategic data and communications networks, utility control centers, crisis and emergency management facilities, and decision-support systems, thereby enhancing the state’s readiness to respond to a wide range of exceptional circumstances.

The construction of this major complex forms part of the state’s vision for building a modern administrative capital that brings together the country’s principal sovereign institutions and provides an advanced environment for the efficient management of state affairs through the latest digital and technological systems.
The inauguration is expected to be attended by a high-level officials comprising a number of heads of state, heads of government, and senior officials, in an event intended to reflect Egypt’s regional and international standing and to underscore the continued implementation of the New Republic’s projects in accordance with a comprehensive strategic vision aimed at strengthening the state’s capabilities and consolidating its position at both the regional and international levels.
