Giannis Maniatis, Vice-President of the Socialists and Democrats (S&D) Group responsible for Foreign Affairs and head of PASOK’s delegation in the European Parliament, held a working meeting in Brussels with Egypt’s Ambassador to the EU and NATO, Ahmed Abu Zeid.

At the center of the discussion was “EU-Egyptian cooperation, with particular emphasis on the negotiations concerning St. Catherine’s Monastery of Mount Sinai.”

“This is a critical issue, which PASOK’s Members of the European Parliament had already highlighted last August through a relevant written question submitted to the European Parliament,” the same statement noted.

At the same time, the two sides “discussed in detail the new geopolitical conditions and security challenges in the wider Middle East region” and stressed “the need to strengthen regional cooperation on the basis of respect for international law and the peaceful resolution of any disputes.”
