The Coptic Orthodox Church has announced the launch of the first specialized academy for training Coptic football players. The academy aims to train these players and pave the way for them to join the Egyptian clubs and open up opportunities for international careers.
In a video aired by the “Nabd Al-Kiraza” program on CTV, Mina Ramses, the general supervisor of the academy, revealed that the idea for the academy originated from Bishop Pavli, the General Bishop of the Montazah District in Alexandria. He aspired to create an academy dedicated to discovering and nurturing talented young people, training them to become professional players, and promoting them to Egyptian and international clubs.
The academy seeks to integrate spiritual and developmental dimensions into its programs. George Ibrahim, the academy’s director, explained that this initiative “aligns with the political leadership’s attention to citizenship and equal opportunities.”
Abanoub Nabil, the academy’s technical director, stated that training will take place once a week, with sessions intensified during the summer holidays. Nabil emphasized that the academy aims to balance football training with maintaining the students’ academic performance, noting that they aspire to develop players who excel in skills, intelligence, and behavior, in preparation for potential professional opportunities in the future.
