In recent days, Syria has witnessed a dangerous escalation in acts of violence, brutality, and killings, which have resulted in attacks on innocent civilians, including women and children. Additionally, homes have been violated, properties looted, and horrific scenes have emerged, reflecting the immense suffering endured by the Syrian people.
The Christian churches, while strongly condemning any violation of civil peace, denounce and reject the massacres targeting innocent citizens. They emphasize the urgent need to put an end to these horrific acts, which contradict all human and moral values.
The churches also call for the swift creation of suitable conditions for achieving national reconciliation among the Syrian people and for fostering an environment that allows for the transition to a state that respects all its citizens. This transition should be built on equal citizenship and true partnership, free from the logic of revenge and exclusion. At the same time, the churches affirm the unity of Syrian territory and reject any attempt to divide it.
The churches appeal to all concerned parties within Syria to take responsibility for ending the cycle of violence and to strive for peaceful solutions that uphold human dignity and preserve national unity.
We pray that God protects Syria and its people and that peace prevails throughout the land.
