Islamic State Central Africa Province (ISCAP) claimed, in four statements published on July 25-27, 2024, that on July 24 its fighters attacked six villages in the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s (DRC) northeastern provinces, beheading more than 57 Christian villagers. In the two largest attacks that day, 54 villagers were beheaded, 30 and 24 respectively.
The largest attack occurred in the village of Beu-Manyama, in the Beni territory of the DRC’s North-Kivu province. ISCAP identified the village as being “in the Ituri region.” More than 30 villagers were reportedly beheaded in the attack. Before leaving the village and returning to their positions unharmed, ISCAP fighters also burned several homes and motorcycles.
The day’s second largest attack occurred in the North-Kivu province as well. Three villages – Nzakiya, Moya and Mangumbo – were targeted, and 24 Christian villagers beheaded. A third assault was carried out in the neighboring Lubero territory, in the village of Ombole. A Christian was captured and beheaded in that attack.
ISCAP fighters also captured and beheaded two Christians in the village of Ndalia, in Ituri province.
ISCAP has been pursuing a violent campaign against Christian civilians in the DRC’s northeastern provinces in recent months. On June 7, the organization claimed a particularly deadly attack in the Beni territory, in which over 60 Christians were reportedly beheaded.
