A fire broke out on Sunday in the Church of the Virgin in the village of Asker, Al-Saff District, Giza Governorate, and devoured the contents of the church, which is located on the ground floor. Copts gathered around their church amid scenes of grief.

Anba Zosima, the bishop of Atfih and al-Saff, said that the fire did not result in any casualties and that it was “caused by a candle left by one of the worshipers.”

On the other hand, reviewing the available images from the surveillance cameras indicates that the candle ignited suddenly and in an unusual way.. However, there does not seem to be a tendency to investigate in depth, contenting that an ordinary “candle” is behind the accident…
