Mina Thabet, founder of the People’s Initiative Party, has warned that cases of Coptic abduction and ransoming against huge sums of money are on the rise in the Minya Governorate. These acts of terror have indeed turned into a source of profit for thugs and terrorists.
According to the News Portal, Thabet has declared that since January 25 2011, these kidnappings have cost the Copts over 120 million Egyptian pounds. Minya is at an all-time low and is ridden with corruption.
Thabet enumerated Coptic abduction cases in Minya, including the last one—a civil servant and father of three, whose family had failed to come up with the asked ransom.
According to him, there is incomprehensible laxity toward the safety of Coptic minorities, making them vulnerable to kidnappings.
