A statement issued by the Minya Diocese said, “At four o’clock this afternoon, a fight erupted between Mary Sadek and Isaac Yakoub from the village of Nazlat Ebeid, on one side, and Mamlouk Mohamed Allam from the neighboring village of Hawarta. The first party were about to build a house on a piece of land next to another one owned by the second party, who was against that. Last week, a report was filed at the police station.”

“After a complaint was filed, only one police vehicle arrived at the scene, an hour and a half after the fight had erupted, and was attacked by the perpetrators,” the statement said.

Bishop Makaryos said that “The situation is worrying, especially in light of the extremism and violence that exists”.

This is the second attack in one day against Coptic locals of villages in the governorate of Minya. Muslim locals of the village of Badraman attacked Copts, burning down three of their houses, under the allegations of a relationship between a Coptic boy and a Muslim girl.
